Spring Break and Mobile Care in the Queen City
Hello friends!
May in the Carolinas is right around the corner, bringing the warmer weather we’ve all been waiting for. This April, the Lanier family took a quick trip down I-85 to Atlanta for Spring Break, and it gave me some great perspective on vacation mobility.
In this edition, we’re recapping our trip, sharing tips on the best footwear for your own spring travels, and exploring three scenarios where our onsite podiatry care is making a major difference for Charlotte residents.
Top of My Mind: The Vacation Mile
Lessons from the Atlanta BeltLine
During our Spring Break trip to Atlanta, I was struck by how much walking is required to really see a city. Between navigating the Georgia Aquarium and walking sections of the Atlanta Beltline, we easily clocked several miles a day.
It’s a reminder that we often ask the most of our feet when we are supposed to be "relaxing" on vacation. Many of the injuries I see in springtime aren't from the gym but from people walking five miles in flip-flops at a theme park or aquarium instead.
Your Shoes Are Your Travel Gear
As you plan your spring and summer getaways, remember: your shoes are your travel gear. Don't let a blister or an arch strain become the main memory of your trip!
Just like a long day at the aquarium, your daily life in Charlotte shouldn't be sidelined by foot pain. If you've been putting off care because you can't find time to fight the I-485 traffic, remember that SmartStep Foot and Ankle offers onsite care in the Charlotte Metro region, where I come directly to your home or office.

Our family loved the Beluga whales at the Georgia Aquarium during our recent trip
The Lanier Family Corner: Atlanta Adventures
From Belugas to Breaded Chicken
Toni and the kids had a blast exploring Atlanta. One of the absolute highlights was the Georgia Aquarium. Seeing the beluga whales up close was an incredible experience for the kids (and for us!). The scale of that facility is truly something to behold.

No trip to Georgia is complete without a stop at The Dwarf House, site of the original Chick-Fil-A
A Family Tradition: The Dwarf House
Of course, no trip to the Atlanta area is complete without a stop at the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House. It’s a family favorite and a bit of a tradition for us. There’s something about the history of the original Hapeville location that makes the meal even better. We returned to Charlotte with full stomachs and some great memories.
Clinical Corner: Who Benefits from Mobile Podiatry?
Three Scenarios Where Onsite Care in Charlotte Matters Most
Between the congestion of the Uptown loop and the demands of a busy lifestyle, a traditional doctor’s office doesn't always fit. In our latest blog post, we look at three specific ways we are bringing the clinic to the environments where life actually happens:
The Home-Bound Injury: For those like "Susan," who sustained a wound while gardening, we provide care right at your home, avoiding the stress and potential "secondary infections" of an ER visit.
The Uptown Executive: For busy professionals in SouthPark or Uptown, a 15-minute follow-up can cost two hours of billable time in traffic. We recently visited a trial attorney during his lunch hour to treat a painful neuroma, getting him back in the courtroom pain-free by the afternoon.
Personalized Senior Care: We visit residents in independent and assisted living communities to perform neurological screenings and gait assessments in their own apartments, significantly reducing fall risks.
Ten Toes Down: Vacation Footwear Tips
In our recent "Ten Toes Down" series, we shared home remedies and proper footwear for travel. If you are heading out on a trip soon:
The Break-In Rule: Never wear brand-new shoes on the first day of vacation. Give them at least two weeks of "break-in" time at home.
Supportive Sandals: If you’re hitting the beach, look for sandals with built-in arch support rather than flat, rubber flip-flops.
The Post-Walk Rinse: Just like we discussed in our blog post about "Yellow Dust" season, if you've been walking through parks or nature trails, rinse your feet to remove allergens and debris.
Connecting With Us: Let’s Stay in Step
Whether you are traveling this spring or staying local in Charlotte, SmartStep is here to keep you moving.
Telehealth Consults: Get an expert opinion on a vacation injury from anywhere in NC or SC.
Onsite Visits: Skip the traffic and let the clinic come to you in Charlotte.
Leave a Google Review: If we've helped you get back on your feet, your feedback helps others in the community find the care they need!
Sincerely,
